Whitening of teeth belongs nowadays to the basic techniques of aesthetic dentistry. It is a cosmetic procedure in order to gently whiten a single tooth or complete rows of teeth. Active oxygen bleaches disturbing colour pigments within the tooth, but does not alter the substances of enamel or dentin. Strong discolouration which cannot be removed by a professional tooth cleaning can be removed effectively, but gently at the same time. The teeth do not suffer any damage. In rare cases there may be a hypersensitivity to hot and cold.
