Nowadays teeth whitening (or bleaching) is one of the most common cosmetic procedures in dentistry. Bleaching is a cosmetic procedure to gently whiten individual or whole rows of teeth. Active oxygen molecules remove discoloured pigments in the tooth without affecting the structure of the enamel or dentine. Stubborn stains that can’t be removed by professional deep cleaning can be whitened gently but effectively, and without any damage to the teeth whatsoever. In some cases increased sensitivity to hot and cold may occur temporarily after tooth whitening.
The effect: let your radiant white smile shine through!

Tooth whitening per bleaching
1. Our whitening methods
The whitening procedure is adapted to suit your needs. There are two main methods: Chairside bleaching which is carried out in our practice, or home bleaching which you can perform at home.
2. Home bleaching
For home bleaching, thin, transparent mouth trays are custom-made for the patient. Over a period of 7-14 days a thin layer of bleaching gel is placed in the trays, which are then worn in the mouth for one hour each day.
3. Chairside bleaching process

- Consultation with our specially-trained dental cosmetician
- The initial colour of the teeth is recorded using a colour scale
- A protective gel barrier is carefully and evenly applied to protect the gums and mucous membranes
- The protective gel barrier is hardened using a polymerisation lamp for approx. 5-10 seconds per area
- Bleaching gel is applied and spread evenly to a thickness of approx. 1-2 mm per tooth
- The teeth are exposed to UV radiation using a specially-made lamp made by zoom
- The process may be repeated 2-4 times depending on the results and the patient’s individual expectations
- To finish: thorough removal of the bleaching gel using a suction tool followed by rinsing with water
- The protective gel barrier is lifted away using a blunt instrument
- A soothing gel is applied and left to remineralise the teeth
- Discussion of the results and repetition of the treatment if desired
